Load Balancer Ensures Automated High Availability of Java Apps on Jelastic PaaS Platform

Platform-as-a-service (PaaS) infrastructure creator Jelastic has added new features to the platform to ensure automated high availability of Java apps, wrote Vance McCarthy in his report that was posted on the Integration developer news site. The report quoted Jelastic CEO and Founder Ruslan Synytsky stating, “The platform has been built to focus on innovation and writing code, and avoid the need to spend time and energy managing and configuring servers, or worry about infrastructure problem.”
As per McCarthy’s report, based on Synytsky’s description, Jelastic’s platform runs any Java app in the cloud without code changes and without writing for specific APIs, as well as supports a full range of simple to use features for creating, deploying, scaling and managing applications.
Further highlighting the features and capabilities of Jelastic (PaaS) platform, the CEO bragged about the wide selection of stack components offered by Jelastic. They include application servers (Tomcat, GlassFish and Jetty), databases (MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, MongoDB), NGINX load balancer, and Maven build system.
“This wide choice of components, in turn, helps ensure applications will run and scale easily on Jelastic platform,” according to Synytsky, as per McCarthy’s report.
Synytsky’s told reporter McCarthy that Jelastic’s latest high availability features are simple to access. “When devs click a button, from within the environment configuration, Jelastic will then clusters each application server with another application server running on a separate virtual machine and replicates sessions between them,” stated Synytsky.
Additionally, McCarthy’s report indicates that Jelastic will also automatically configure the load balancer, including the enabling of cookie-based/sticky sessions. As a result, if one application server fails or is taken offline for maintenance or application upgrade, the other machine keeps running off the stored sessions it was sharing within the cluster.
The report goes on to discuss a Jelastic blog post that describes the process and the technology is more detail. It indicates that using components like load balancer, an apps server like GlassFish offers option for high availability, allowing for full instance and cluster replication.
According to McCarthy, Jelastic uses NGINX load balancer, which can redirect users’ requests when instances fail. “All these services come without vendor lock-in,” noted Synytsky. He added, “Jelastic’s technology makes all of this possible and it is as easy as pointing and clicking.”
Speaking of load balancers, Coyote Point Systems (News - Alert) reported some noticeable gains in the market last year.
