WSO2 Updates Cloud Middleware Platforms, Enhances Load Balancer Features
November 15, 2011

WSO2, an enterprise middleware company, is launching the latest releases of its two award-winning, 100 percent open source cloud middleware platforms. And one of the biggest updates to the platforms is a significantly enhanced load balancer.
The new WSO2 Carbon enterprise middleware platform and WSO2 Stratos (News - Alert) cloud middleware platform are built on the same modular, OSGi-compliant code base, WSO2 Carbon 3.2.2 and WSO2 Stratos 1.5.2, the company said.
WSO2 Carbon, the company claims, is the industry's first fully componentized middleware platform for creating, running and managing composite applications and Web services within an SOA. The middleware platform allows developers to easily deploy and customize any of its WSO2 Carbon-based middleware products, and the 150-plus components on which they are comprised.
WSO2 Stratos is the complete cloud middleware platform that enables the rapid building and deployment of applications and services with full multi-tenancy and the elasticity, reliability and scalability to support high-volume cloud environments. This platform extends WSO2 Carbon with cloud-native functionality. It also powers the WSO2 StratosLive public PaaS hosted by WSO2.
As part of the improvements, both products now include a new Ghost Deployer, new Column Store Service (CSS (News - Alert)) based on Apache Cassandra, Apache Subversion (SVN) deployment option, and significantly enhanced load balancer. The new features are available to all 12 WSO2 Carbon middleware products and their corresponding WSO2 Stratos cloud-native middleware services.
The company has also made these new features available on WSO2 StratosLive, the platform-as-a-service (PaaS) hosted by WSO2 and powered by the WSO2 Stratos software. The new service will provide enterprises with access to the latest WSO2 technology advances whether they are deployed on-premise, in a private cloud, on a public cloud, or hybrid cloud environment.
"We realized early on that enterprises need to implement their applications and services flexibly and seamlessly, both on-premise and in the cloud, as their business and IT demands change," said Samisa Abeysinghe, WSO2 vice president of engineering, in a statement. "That is why we are committed to building our WSO2 Carbon and WSO2 Stratos platforms on a common set of modular code and ensuring that new features are available to all our customers.”
WSO2 will demonstrate the latest versions of WSO2 Carbon, WSO2 Stratos, and WSO2 StratosLive at QCon San Francisco 2011. WSO2 is a sponsor of the developer conference, which is being held November 16--18, 2011 at the Westin San Francisco Market Street.
WSO2 Carbon 3.2.2, WSO2 Stratos 1.5.2 and WSO2 StratosLive are in production and available today. They are released under the Apache License 2.0, and they do not carry any licensing fees.

The company has over 12,500 customers worldwide, and what Coyote Point officials describe as “a mid-market to mid enterprise focus,” in such areas as application delivery, load balancing and application acceleration.
