VortiQa ITCL software, designed for Freescale's flagship QorIQ multicore embedded processors, distributes the processing and traffic evenly across a network , making sure no single device is overloaded, according to company officials.

There's a tech-heavy debate in IT that says if you have a load balancer, you do not need a firewall. According to Greg Ferro over at Network Computing, a load balancer is, in fact, already a firewall, so implementing both is simply a duplicated effort on behalf of network managers. This is, of course, separating technical versus policy, meaning that security professionals are the ones pushing firewall when, really, the technical issue is that you don't. At least, that's what Ferro is suggesting.
